STATE-OF-THE-ART EQUIPMENT TO ASSESS YOUR ANIMAL’S VITALS
Veterinary Laboratory Services in Shippensburg, PA
While a physical examination of your animal friend is typically the first step in detecting any health issues, it can only tell our veterinarians so much. This is why we rely on laboratory diagnostic testing to get a better idea of your animal’s health status.
At Shippensburg, Mount Rock, and Allen Road Animal Hospital, we perform a variety of laboratory testing, including:
- Complete Blood Count (CBC): During this test, we draw your animal’s blood and measure its various components. By assessing the levels of red blood cells, white blood cells, and blood platelets, we are able to diagnose a variety of health problems. Our veterinarians can detect whether your animal has any infections, bleeding problems, or problems with blood clotting.
- Electrolyte analysis: During this test, we measure your animal’s electrolyte levels, such as sodium, potassium, chloride, and acid content. Should your animal have a seizure disorder, be dehydrated, or have another health condition, his or her electrolyte levels will appear off balance.
- Urinalysis: When we take a urine sample from your animal, we use it to assess your animal’s kidney functions and/or look for any signs of a urinary tract infection. Our veterinarians sometimes use catheters to ensure that the urine collection is done in a sterile manner.
- Fecal analysis: Whenever possible, we ask that you bring a fecal sample when you arrive for an appointment. Our veterinarians take the fecal sample to our laboratory to inspect it for signs of parasites, worms, or other infections that affect your animal’s digestive tract.
